Justin, Kasey, Emma Grace, & Lake Van Norman moved from East Texas to the Brazos Valley in 2010. Not long after their arrival, Kasey was diagnosed with Stage IV, Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and given less than 5 years to live. In 2013, after aggressive treatment and clinging to the Lord through prayer & community, Kasey’s body began to heal, inspiring the Van Normans to live every moment to its fullest-loving and learning from those also suffering loss in their community.
In their early 30’s, and with 2 young children, Justin & Kasey moved their family onto a local rescue & rehabilitation ranch serving minors out of crisis situations. Here, their eyes were opened to the widespread pain and injustice suffered by the vulnerable families in their own backyard.
Discovering poverty and homelessness as the common thread holding these harmful patterns in place, Justin & Kasey combined their non-profit experience and personal passion of service to develop the Northway Farms restorative model-empowering families out of poverty in a sustainable and holistic way.
With a miraculous 2015 cancer-free report, the Van Norman family founded their dream and calling in 2016, becoming the first and only long-term residential care option for both mother and child in the Brazos Valley.
Northway Farms offers affordable housing, restorative employment, and a loving family to homeless women struggling in poverty due to past abandonment, abuse, addiction, or incarceration. Northway Farms is also the only family housing service in Central TX approved to receive ex-offenders with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Justin & Kasey have been married for 16 years. Their children, Emma Grace (12) and Lake (9) are just as passionate as their parents to live as a family with those who are hurting and in need.
Justin works full-time as an insurance agent with Texas Farm Bureau in Bryan-helping to support the farm with his income. In the evenings, he manages the land and animals. Justin is a certified equestrian therapist with over 25 years experience in the farm & ranch service industry.
Kasey is a 2x bestselling author, national speaker, & a licensed professional/chemical dependency counselor. She has earned degrees in Psychology, Public Speaking, Counseling, and Biblical Studies.
With over 20 years serving in vocational ministry, non-profit work, and traveling both domestically & internationally to study the traumatic effects of poverty, Kasey is passionate about inspiring others to consider how they might serve the most vulnerable in their community. She believes God’s Word awakens the desire in us to love others intimately and sacrificially.
The Van Normans are devoted members of Faith Bible Church in Bryan.
Receiving their first residents and volunteers in 2017, the Van Normans believe Northway Farms will grow into a haven of hope and belonging for all people in their community.
